U/14 Girls Div 2
Newcastle West Town B 3-3 Askeaton
Aoibhinn O’ Donoghue (2)
Lily Bishop
Newcastle West led 2 nil at halftime at home favoured by a strong breeze. Our girls raised their game in the second half and equalised through goals by Aoibhinn O’ Donoghue and Lily Bishop, after constant pressure on the home goal. Aoibhinn then gave us the lead with her second goal, we thought that would be enough to win the game for us but it was not to be. The home side rallied to equalise leaving the final score 3-3.
Most enjoyable game with all our panel playing with great spirit and commitment.
These girls will be representing Limerick next Saturday in U.L in the Communiity Games Munster Futsal finals and we wish them well.

Sunday 9th April
Riedy Cup 2nd Round
Newcastle West Town Reserves 2-3 Askeaton AFC
Stephen Smith
Cian Smith
Pete Harty
Great quality of football from both sides, we created great chances with Jeff and Sam coming close early on. Ray, Shane and Sam were winning all the battles in midfield and some of the link up play was very good. At halftime we knew If we kept playing our ball we would create more chances and 5 minutes into the second half when Sam layed off the ball to Stephen and a lovely strike into the bottom corner. We were by far the better side but Newcastle got a penalty and failed to convert. The lads kept up the pressure and it paid off when Jeff received the ball and used his strength to shake off the defender and square the ball to Cian who slotted it passed the keeper. Niall Barry came on and made an instant impact, running up and down the wing and causing the defence loads of problems with his pace. Our next goal came from the penalty spot when Niall was tripped in the box, up stepped Pete who sent the keeper the wrong way. Credit to Newcastle they came back and scored 2 goals in as many minutes. We created another chance when Cian who was outstanding today passed the keeper and squared to Jeff who tapped it home, but unfortunately the ref called offside. Newcastle threw all there players at our defence but we were solid, especially Caolan Rushe who put his head on everything. Matt, Cormac, Stephen and Colum were solid aswell. Killian made a few quality saves also today and we had a solid bench which helped us over the line. Great game to watch and great performance. Onto the next round we go.
Team: Killan Fitzgerald, Matt Moane, Cormac O’ Keeffe, Caolan Rushe, Colum Sweeney, Sam Duggan, Ray Kelly, Shane Long, Cian Smith, Jeff Duggan, Stephen Smith, Niall Barry, Pate Harty, Kieran Walsh, Mark Murphy.
Managers: Mark Murphy, Chris Kelly.
