Saturday 4th March
U/10 Girls (non-competitive)
Creeves v Askeaton AFC
The girls travelled to near neighbours Creeves on Saturday morning where they played a very entertaining and even game resulting in a draw. Well done.
U/12 Girls Div 2
Rathkeale 2-1 Askeaton AFC
Hailey Ashton
Unfortunately our girls had a 2-1 defeat to Rathkeale Saturday morning in Rathkeale. We always knew this was going to a tough encounter with Rathkeale hot on our heels in the league. Rathkeale started really well and were 2-0 up after 15 minutes. But major credit has to go to the girls as they regrouped and gathered themselves. Hailey Ashton pulled a goal back early in the 2nd half, after a great assist from Samantha Maune to make it 2-1. The girls battled so hard to get the equaliser and were very unlucky not to do so. Credit has to go to Rathkeale who weathered the storm well and held on for the win. Unlucky girls, great effort. We go again.

Youths Division 3
Feenagh 4-1 Askeaton AFC
Arron McCarthy
We travelled to Feenagh on Saturday to play the league leaders in our second last match. In a game where we really needed a win, we got off to a good start when half way through the first half, a well taken corner from Thomas McCarthy was met by Arron McCarthy who found the net and gave us the lead.
After the half time break Feenagh came out much stronger and took control of the game. Within minutes they got the equaliser they were waiting for but did not stop there, as unfortunately three more goals from them followed soon after. Credit to all the lads who kept going until the final whistle. We look forward to meeting Feenagh again in the first round of the Desmond Youths Cup in the coming weeks.

Sunday 5th March
Weekly Observer Desmond Cup
Askeaton AFC 2-3 Broadford Utd (HT 1-1)
Jeff Duggan
Stephen Smith
We started ok, Broadford had a good bit of the ball but we expected that. We defended very well and Cian was dangerous on the counter attack for us but Broadford scored first with a well worked goal. Credit to the lads they pulled one back before halftime as Cian drilled the ball across the box and Jeff drove it into the roof of the net.
We started the second half the better team with Sam and Ray dominating midfield. Ray played a great ball to Jeff on the wing, his delivery was top class to find Pete but just heading it over the cross bar. With the boys growing in confidence Pete played a fine ball across to Stephen but he just missed it by an inch. Soon after Pete had another chance just narrowly missed the target, but as we pushed up Broadford scored two fast goals. The boys still kept fighting and 85 minutes Cian was taken down in the box and his brother Stephen slotted it home.
I honestly can’t praise this bunch of lads enough, their top class, never give up and always fight to the last whistle 🔴⚫
