Saturday 12th November
The Weekly Observer U12 Boys Div 2
Shountrade AFC 3-0 Askeaton AFC
U12 boys went down 3-0 away to division 2 table toppers Shountrade. Two goals from Shountrade put us on the back foot during the first half, a couple of close offside calls were the difference. In the second half we pressed on and had a penalty which hit the post. Shountrade scored against the run of play to finish the game. The boys were great to a man and did the jersey proud. We’re improving all the time.
U12 Boys Cup
Glantine 4-1 Askeaton B

Glantine were just that bit stronger than us today but all the lads played well. It’s worth noting that all this team are in their first season with U12s and are getting better with every game.

U16 Boys Cup
Askeaton AFC 5-4 Kilcolman Rvs AET
Zach Birdthistle (2)
Deren Aksoy
Jamie Sheehan
Jamie Ruane
A superb performance in the 1st half had the home side leading 3-0 at the short whistle, goals from Deren Aksoy, Zach Birdthistle and Jamie Sheehan. Kilcolman came at us in the second half and got a goal back after 10 minutes. We steadied ourselves and got a better hold of the game. It looked like we would hold out but the visitors reduced the deficit with 5 minutes to go. In a frantic finish Kilcolman equalised with the final kick of the 80 minutes.
Our lads didn’t let the disappointment effect them and Jamie Ruane made it 4-3 when a long range shot deceived everyone. True to script Kilcolman equalised again with only 5 minutes on the clock. Just when it looked like penalties, Zach Birdthistle hit the winner after Deren Aksoy’s shot was parried by the keeper. Great entertainment played in a good spirit.
Team: Cathal Guerin, Dean Murphy, Ben Fitzgerald, Conor Neville, Matthew Kehoe, Zach Birdthistle, Jamie Sheehan, Shane Ryan, Christopher Sheehy, Deren Aksoy, Jamie Ruane, Willie Russell, Aidan Kelly, Shane Collins.
The Kostal U14 Girls Div 2
Askeaton AFC v Shountrade AFC (W.O to Askeaton)
Sunday 13th November
Weekly Observer Division 1
Askeaton AFC 4-2 Rathkeale B (3-1 HT)
Sean Whelan
Stephen Smith
Sam Duggan (2)
Started the game strong again today pinning Rathkeale back at the start of the game. Pete had two good chances but the keeper saved and the other went over the bar. Sean Whelan put us one up when he was put through one on one with the keeper and slotted it home, soon after that I think we witnessed one of the goals of the season, as Stephen Smith took control of the ball after a free was blocked, took on 4 players and stuck the ball in the top corner, what a solo goal it was. Stephen made an assist after with a corner, whipped in and Sam got ahead of his man and slotted home. Rathkeale scored from the spot just before half-time.
The second half was more of a battle as we got a soft red card in the early stages. Alan McGrath made one of the tackles of the season, everyone was getting ready for a corner but the ref pointed to the spot and Rathkeale scored again. With 30 minutes left the lads defended and fought for every ball and with the last play of the game Sam burst up the pitch, was taken down in the box and slotted home the penalty to get a massive 3 points. The boys showed great heart today.
Team: Killian Fitzgerald, Cormac O’ Keeffe, Kevin Barry, Colum Sweeney, Alan McGrath, Sam Duggan, Niall Barry, Ray Kelly, Sean Whelan, Stephen Smith, Pete Harty, Matt Moane, Shane Long, Cian Smith, Alex Ryan, John Quilligan.
Managers: Mark Murphy, Chris Kelly.
